TPO Thermoplastic Polyolefin is a single ply membrane. It’s comprised of three layers; a TPO polymer base layer, polyester reinforced fabric (scrim) and a TPO top layer that is usually white, gray or tan.
TPO roofing is UV and heat resistant like EPDM rubber roofing. It is heat weldable like PVC roofing which creates a monolithic roof covering. In fact, the welds are actually stronger than the TPO membrane itself. TPO roofing is considered a “cool roof”, which means it is highly reflective compared to asphalt or rubber based roofing systems.
The highly-reflective properties of TPO roofing means it exceeds the requirements of an ENERGY STAR rating and makes it an excellent choice for those looking to reduce energy costs. TPO can be recycled as well, making it great for the environmentally conscious.
THERMOPLASTIC ROOFING (TPO)
PVC roofing has the same benefits as TPO roofing, but PVC is more chemical resistant than TPO. PVC roofing is an excellent choice for restaurants due to the animal fats that are purged through their ventilation systems on the roof deck.
PVC roofing is ENERGY STAR rated and cool roof certified and has the environmental benefit of using fewer fossil fuels in the manufacturing process.
Built-Up Roofing (BUR) and Modified Bitumen (Mod bit) systems share many characteristics, chief among them is the use of asphalt bitumen as an adhesive for layers of felt, fabric, or matting.
BUR roofing systems are comprised of layers of felt and bitumen (either asphalt or coal tar pitch), that are applied hot and left to cool. They are then covered with gravel, a mineral sheet cap, or other weather resistant coatings. Generally, BUR systems are three to five ply. The layering of the bitumen and felt provide enhanced water resistance.
Mod Bit systems combine the layers of a BUR system during the manufacturing process rather than during the application process, creating a single-ply application. Polymer modifiers can be added during the manufacturing process to give the roof additional elasticity, temperature flexibility, and weatherability.
Mod Bit can be applied by either hop mop, torch down or cold process. Mod Bit roofing is typically a two-ply system which consists of a base sheet and generally a granulated cap sheet. Mod Bit cap sheets can implement the use of white granules to increase the reflective properties of the roofing surface.
MODIFIED BITUMEN & BUILT-UP ROOFING
Metal roofing is one of the oldest and longest lasting types of roofing. There are metal roofs over a hundred years old. Some types of metal roofs are; standing seam, R-Panel and stamped metal panels that simulate wood shakes or tile.
Metal roofing in certain colors can be extremely energy efficient, also most types of metal roofing are hail resistant. This means energy and possibly insurance premium savings for property owners.
Metal roofing is highly adaptable to different and unique roofing pitches, angles and designs. This makes metal an excellent choice for a wide variety of structures and commercial applications.
STEEP SLOPE ROOFING
The most common type of steep slope roofing is asphalt shingles. Asphalt shingles are comprised of fiberglass mats saturated with asphalt.
Due to asphalt being easily degraded by UV exposure, colored mineral granules are embedded into the exposed side of the asphalt shingle to not only protect the shingle but add color appeal. Asphalt shingles come in a wide variety of styles and colors. Some shingles can simulate tile, wood shakes and even slate roofing.
We can also provide asphalt shingles that provide a class 4 impact resistance. These shingles are hail resistant and can translate to insurance premium savings for property owners.
Concrete and clay tiles are most often associated with residential construction but can be used for steep slope commercial roofing as well. Concrete or clay tiles can be installed in overlapping "shingle fashion" on steep slope roofs. These tiles are usually installed with a combination of nails and mortar. Concrete tiles are one of the most durable types of steep roofing available today.
